This is a case belonging to Soldier W. Heize, 7We36206, Prisoner
of War. He was processed in this country in the Seventh Service Command
(7); by the War Department (W); he
fought in the German (G) armed forces; and was assigned the
individual number 36206.It was used as a suitcase.It is from the
WWII German AFRIKA CORPS In North Africa in 1943. Many of the prisoners
were brought to the US and located as far away as California. I remember
a prisoner of War campat Palmdale, Calif. <p>
The case is made of wood with a cloth Mustard Afrika tan colored cloth
cover, 5/8" webbing straps and buckles, and a couple of hooks and eyes
that I think were added.
The inside is covered with brown paper. It is 24" long 17" high and
9" deep.

In February 1941 things looked black for the Axis in North Africa,
following defeat after defeat inflicted upon the Itallian Army at the hands
of a small British tank force. Two months later all that had changed-
Rommel and the German army had joined the fight. The British themselves
lay in
confusion and the Axis beat upon the frontiers
of Egypt. El Alemein, Kasserine pass, Tobruk,
Then The US Army led by Patton and the battle That changed the War.
